By Holger Hott.It is hardly news anymore but Jon Duncan ran a fantastic 2nd leg for Great Britain in the WOC relay on Sunday. The KOK-runner could send Jamie Stevenson out first on the last leg. In the end it was three teams fighting for the medals. GB, France and Russia were racing side by side until it was only a few minutes left to run.
Thierry Gueorgiou, France, stepped on a hornet's nest, swallowed an insect and got stung in the throat. Unable to get enough oxygen in to his lungs, Thierry could not finish the race. Novikov made a mistake, and Jamie could lead GB to the first ever WOC relay gold. Graham Gristwood ran the first leg. Congratulation!
Bronze for 2 KOK runners
With France out of the game the swiss boys Baptiste Rollier, Mattias Merz and Daniel Hubmann could secure the bronze. Damien Renard ran a very good 2nd leg for France and changed over as 2nd.
King of the championships
Daniel had a fantastic WOC-week with placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. He showed everybody that he is the most complete orienteer in the world right now and maybe throughout all history.
